Asha Bhosle To Make Bollywood Acting Debut

Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle has announced she will make her acting debut in a Bollywood movie. In 2009 Asha was identified by the World Records Academy as the ‘Most Recorded Artist’ in the world. Asha’s prolific career has spun over six decades, during which she has recorded playback songs for over one thousand Bollywood movies. Aged 78, she is certainly showing no signs of slowing down.

The film Maaee portrays the tale of a mother who is abandoned by her only son. Her daughter will be played by Bollywood starlet Padmini Kolhapure. Asha has explained that she simply wanted to try something new, but will not be taking up acting full-time. She articulated her confidence in her own acting abilities by citing the prominent role of dialogue and expression in her own songs.

Maaee will be released in Indian cinemas in April 2011.
