Desert Island Discs Online Archive Opens Up

On January 29 2012, the renowned radio show Desert Island Discs will celebrate its 70th birthday.

The BBC Radio show asks famous guests which eight records they would take with them if they were cast away alone on a remote desert island. A bit of imagination is needed - listeners must accept that said remote island handily has a stereo system and constant supply of electricity! Putting aside such logisitics, the show is a great way of discovering music and getting an up close insight into the tastes and inspirations of some great personalities, including many world famous musicians.

Last year, the BBC gradually opened up their archive making it possible to stream or download a huge wealth of shows online via their comprehensive website.

Here are some of our favourite shows from world music, folk and jazz stars who have chosen their Desert Island Discs.
