Vice Video: Peruvian Huayno Scandal

The Peruvian music scene is dominated by Huayno, a combination of traditional rural folk music and popular urban dance music. But it's a scene with a dark side. Two years ago one of Huayno's biggest stars, Alicia Delgado, the 'Princesa del Folklore Peruano' ('Peruvian Princess of Folk Music'), was brutally murdered. Being hugely popular in both her native Peru and neighbouring countries, Delgado's death and the allegations surrounding it became an enormous scandal, rocking Peru's favourite genre.

This new video documentary made by Vice takes a closer look at the music, the people, the politics and the press that were, and still are, involved in this event that shocked a nation.
