Director Pierre-Yves Borgeaud's film is part-portrait, part-travelogue, and is also a visual and musical treat, with Gilberto collaborating with many of the inspiring artists he meets on his journey. The film's accompanying soundtrack CD The South African Meeting of Viramundo is a collaboration between Gilberto Gil and South African singer/songwriter Vusi Mahlasela that arose out of their meeting in the film.
