The leading platform for global music, WOMEX, has ushered in the call for proposals for their 2016 edition. Musicians, industry insiders and filmmakers from all around the globe can apply for the Showcase Festival, the DJ Summit, as well as for the Conference and Film programmes at WOMEX 16, which takes place in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, 19-23 October this year.
Connect with 2.500 music professionals from 90 countries and share your ideas. For the hands-onconference sessions, WOMEX especially seeks trends in technology as well as music’s role in cultural identity for the next generations. Thefilm programme will be selected from feature, middle-length and short entries, visualising music, movement and history. WOMEX Showcases and DJ-Cases reach out to many and varied global music circles.
'We are pleased to see that over the past years it's become a trend that showcase and conference proposals are more and more diverse in styles and topics. This was reflected in the past jury programmings – featuring musical styles as disparate as jazz, folk-metal and rap. We are looking forward to a multifaceted selection again in 2016.' - Alexander Walter, WOMEX Director.
Everyone active in the global music scene can turn in a proposal! The programme of WOMEX is made by the global music community spanning across all continents, from traditional and folk circles to all other alternative and culturally open-minded scenes.
Proposals can be made in four categories. The deadline for proposals in all four is Friday, 15 April 2016. Proposals can be made via clicking here.
Conference
The conference topics take shape around the musical and cultural diversity of WOMEXicans (i.e. WOMEX delegates). Hands-on conference sessions gather insights from experts as well as experiences by active professionals from all areas from live to recorded, from media and cultural to political and educational. Trends in technology as well as music’s role in development, cultural identity and education are especially sought after.

Showcases
WOMEX Showcases reach out to many and varied music circles around the globe. World-famous artists such as Cesária Évora, Mariza, Tinariwen and Bomba Estéreo have started their international career at WOMEX or opened their art to a wider audience.
WOMEX Showcases cover traditional, world and folk music circles of all sorts as much as other alternative scenes, jazz, modern art music and all urban styles. The common denominator – if there must be one – is diversity for its own sake, as well as the appeal to wider, culturally open-minded audiences.
