'Finding Fela': New Documentary

200 Arrests. 60 Albums. 2 Presidential Campaigns. 1 Fela Kuti. 1 New Documentary. The revolutionary life of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti certainly leaves no shortage of source material.

In 'Finding Fela,' Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney chronicles the tumultuous life of the legendary Nigerian musician. Known for both his innovative music and progressive politics, Fela used his songs as platforms to call out corruption of the Nigerian government, sometimes at his own expense. Fela's fearlessness meant that he left behind a lasting legacy as a voice of radical dissent. When Fela left an 18 month jail sentence in 1986, the doc suggests, 'he was second only to Nelson Mandela.'
